Running for Office: Pointe Coupee Parish assessor
NEW ROADS — In the current economic climate, the next Pointe Coupee Parish Assessor should be someone committed to assessing property fairly and in accordance with the law, said Larry Bossier, an attorney running for the position.
Bossier, 57, of Lottie, said he has been a lawyer for 30 years with experience in transferring real estate.
For the past 19 years, Bossier has been an assistant district attorney with the 18th Judicial District.
Those qualifications, he said, make him an ideal candidate to become the parish’s next assessor after the Oct. 17 election.
“I want the Office of the Assessor to be more user-friendly and will endeavor to make the office accessible to you online,” Bossier said in a statement.
The candidate said he will run the assessor’s office in a way where residents can learn the appraised value of their property and have those assessments explained to them without having to leave their home or office.
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Bossier points to several positions he’s held as further proof of his qualifications.
Bossier currently represents the parish library and school boards and has served as legal counsel and adviser to the parish Police Jury, Port Commission, Pointe Coupee Hospital District, Water Works District No. 2 and all parish fire districts.
Statewide, Bossier has served as legal adviser to the Louisiana State Fire Chief’s Association, Louisiana Firemen’s Association and served as president of the Louisiana City Attorney’s Association.
Bossier said he also has first-hand knowledge of the state legislative process. The Southern University graduate said he has helped draft legislation providing benefits to volunteer firefighters and also assisted in streamlining public bidding laws in favor of small businesses.
If elected, Bossier said his career in public service will help him run the Assessor’s Office efficiently and professionally.
