Running for Office; City Court judge Division B; James
Touting her knowledge, experience and professionalism, attorney Kevin “Lovell” James has announced that she is running for the Baton Rouge City Court Judge Division B seat.
James, 45, is a Democrat and has practiced law privately for nearly 13 years in federal, state and local courts, according to her candidate announcement.
The election is slated for May 2. If a runoff is necessary, it will be held May 30. Division B covers the western-most part of the city limits from Thomas Road to south of Lee Drive.
James, who has practiced family, criminal and personal injury law, said in her announcement that her experience, coupled with a broad panoramic view of all aspects of law, will assist her in making sensible rulings which will impact families for a lifetime.
James, a Baton Rouge native, graduated from Redemptorist Senior High School in 1982, received a bachelor’s degree in political science from LSU, a master’s degree in mass communication and her law degree from Southern University.
James is a licensed minister of the gospel and an evangelist. She is the founder of S.T.A.N.D. Evangelistic Ministries and a member of the Word of Life Christian Center in Darrow.

James has five opponents in the race. Five opponents are Democrats: Donald Dobbins, Tarvald Anthony Smith, Kellie Terrell Temple, and Arthur R. Thomas. Republican Durinda Robinson is also running for the seat.
The Division B seat became vacant when former City Court Judge Trudy White was elected state district judge in October.
