Baton Rouge lawyer Hillar Moore III, a former investigator in the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office, says he would bring a unique perspective to the office if elected its next district attorney.

Moore, a graduate of LSU and the Southern University Law Center, has been practicing law in Baton Rouge for nearly 16 years.

Moore, trained in investigative techniques at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., was an investigator in the District Attorney’s Office from 1977 to 1988.

“I’ve got the experience to do the job from the crime scene to the courtroom,’’ Moore, a 53-year-old Democrat, says in a news release. “I started as an investigator on crime scenes and then became an attorney, so I know how to put a criminal case together to get convictions.

“I believe that experience will allow me to be the kind of tough prosecutor we need in East Baton Rouge,’’ he says.

Moore said he would have a prosecutor focus on Internet crimes and specifically sex crimes.

“Internet crime is growing, from ID theft to sexual predators,’’ he said.

“We’ll have a prosecutor who is trained in the latest technology to tackle these criminals.’’

Moore said his office would make sure that victims and witnesses are in constant communication with the District Attorney’s Office to maximize the chances of putting criminals behind bars.

He also said he would continue his work with young people in the community by going to schools and working with teachers and school administrators to identify students who need some help before they find trouble.

The district attorney’s election is Oct. 4.
