Running for Office: West Baton Rouge Ward 7 justice of the peace, Womack
After serving 12 years as Ward 7 justice of the peace in West Baton Rouge Parish, James “Jimmy” Womack is asking voters to re-elect him to a third term of office for “being dedicated to the people.”
“Being available to the people and understanding their needs, is what it takes to serve as a justice of the peace,” Womack said in a statement of candidacy.
Womack, 42, a Democrat, faces Marie K. Bernard, also a Democrat, in the Oct. 4 primary election.
In 1988, Womack won a special election to serve the remaining term of the late Constable Harry André.
Womack holds three degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, including associate of divinity, bachelor of general studies and master’s of arts. He is married to Sharon Baptist Academy schoolteacher Jamie Chaney Womack.
Womack, a longtime resident of Erwinville, has been pastor of First Baptist Church of Maringouin since 1996. He is also a chaplain of Life Source Services, one of the largest Hospice organizations in the state.
Womack, a member of the Justice of the Peace and Constable’s Association, said he has attended numerous justice of the peace training conferences sponsored by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.
“As justice of the peace, I bring knowledge and experience to the office,” Womack said. “I have faithfully served the people of Erwinville and would like to continue to serve the community. I respectfully ask for your vote on Oct. 4.”
Ward 7 in Erwinville is bordered to the north by Poydras Bayou and Rougon Road to the south.
The ward is situated between Rosedale Road and the Pointe Coupee Parish line.
