BRUSLY — Joey Normand said he deserves to be re-elected mayor of Brusly because he established stability in government, enabling the city to grow in a controlled and high-quality way.

“I believe we have a strong team, from  a very solid council to an efficient administrative and public works staff,” Normand said in a campaign statement.

During the past eight years, Normand said, Brusly has made many improvements, including operating an award-winning culvert program, carrying out an aggressive drainage improvement program, continuing street overlays and making many technological upgrades.

These improvements and more, Normand said, have been done in a fiscally responsible manner. For instance, the city discontinued collecting  property taxes, a move unprecedented in the area, he said.

“We have increased our savings while increasing our services to our citizens. By working more efficiently, we have actually downsized our staff,” Normand said.

Normand, who is not affiliated with any political party,  said that his greatest achievement as mayor has been the establishment of a teamwork approach to the city’s challenges.

Normand, 61, said he is also proud of the collaborative effort displayed by his office, the City Council and the city’s employees to provide services the people of Brusly expect and deserve.

“On Oct. 4, I ask that you give me the opportunity to remain as your mayor for four more years,” Normand said. “I only ask that you look at the last eight years of stable, efficient town government and decide if you want that to continue; if you do, please give me your vote and support.”

Normand faces Democrat Edmond Jordan in the Oct. 4 primary election.
