Running for Office: Metro Council District 2, Jemison
Collaborating with Southern University and LSU are important parts of working toward better economic development and community health, said Vincent Jemison, a candidate for Metro Council District 2.
The district is located primarily in the northern part of East Baton Rouge Parish and includes the communities of Scotlandville and Alsen.
“I am running for this position to serve the people of the district and I will be a voice for all the people,” Jemison, 40, wrote in a statement of candidacy.
“I will continue my efforts by working closely with LSU and Southern University to increase awareness of the district’s needs in relation to the healthcare, business and community growth of the district,” Jemison said.
Jemison received project manager certification from LSU and attended business management classes at Southern University.
He also served as the quality assurance monitor for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Renaissance Village trailer park for hurricane evacuees and is currently self-employed.
“I will work to build educational collaborative for our schools and most importantly, I will work to promote business relocation/expansion in the district,” he said. “I will work hard to keep honest and open communication with all of my constituents.”
Jemison is running against incumbent Ulysses “Bones” Addison, and Gerald Handy and Melanie Smith-Johnson. All four candidates are Democrats.
