Lafayette to hold GEE Oct. 26-30
LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish School System will administer the former Graduation Exit Exam on Oct. 26-30 to anyone who needs to complete diploma requirements.
The sophomore class of 1999-2000 was the last required to pass all five parts of the “old GEE” to earn a high-school diploma.
The requirement stands for anyone who was a 10th-grader between 1988 and 1999.
The five tests include written composition, English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
Retest students are required to take only those parts of the old GEE in which they did not previously attain the required performance standards.
Some people may have only one or two sections of the test that stand between them and their diplomas, said Harriet Taylor, district testing coordinator.
She encouraged those interested in taking the test to prepare for the exam and seek tutoring.
The test is free, but registration is required, according to district officials.
The test will not be offered again until spring.
The test registration deadline is Friday. To register call (337) 521-7081 or (337) 521-7080.
