Back-to-school fundraiser set July 26
LAFAYETTE — Pillows of Hope will hold its sixth annual back-to-school fundraiser July 26 at Davis Disco Club in Cecilia.
Doors open at noon and music starts at 1 p.m. The event features 10 local zydeco, jazz, and rhythm and blues bands. Special guests include 105.9 FM disc jockeys, “Carl T.” and “Tommy C.”
Admission is $10 and proceeds will help provide uniforms, school supplies, locker fees and other school fees for disadvantaged students.

Byrd scholarship winners announced
LAFAYETTE — Acadiana area students are among the 127 high school graduates recently awarded a Robert C. Byrd scholarship.
The scholarship program awards those students based on academic achievement, leadership potential, communication skills and community involvement. Applicants must also have earned a 3.5 GPA and scored an ACT composite of 23.
This year’s area recipients are listed by parish:
ACADIA: Chad Manuel, St. Edmund
IBERIA: Michelle Bergeron, Donovan Myers, Episcopal School of Acadiana; Rebecca Landry, New Iberia Senior High
LAFAYETTE: Mary Foreman, St. Thomas More Catholic High; Joshua Landry, GED program; Andrew Matthew, Northside High; and Tony Tzeng, Lafayette High
