LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish School Board gave Superintendent Burnell Lemoine high marks Wednesday night for his performance in the past year.
Board members evaluated Lemoine on 28 performance standards in the areas of policy and governance, planning and assessment, instructional leadership, organizational management, communications and community relations and professionalism.
On a scale of 1 to 8, Lemoine received a cumulative average of 6.77, which was rounded up to a 7, board member Mike Hefner said.
Hefner and fellow member Ed Sam compiled the evaluations.
“A very successful evaluation of his performance in the past year,” Hefner said.
Lemoine passed on his option to receive his annual evaluation in an executive session and allowed Hefner to distribute copies of the evaluation to the media.
Lemoine received his lowest marks from board member Hunter Beasley, who rated Lemoine’s performance as a “5” in all but four areas, which he rated “4.”
During members’ comments at the end of the meeting, Beasley noted his scores were consistent and wanted to publicly clarify his scores.
“It doesn’t mean that I have any less confidence in you,” Beasley told Lemoine.
After the meeting, when questioned about the scoring, Beasley said, “There’s always room for improvement. It is subjective. The top grade is perfection.”
Lemoine received a perfect score from board member Mark Allen Babineaux.
Lemoine received his highest average score of 7.33 in the performance standard of “superintendent demonstrates effective organizational skills to achieve school, community and district goals.”
Lemoine thanked members for their support of staff recommendations in the past year and for the good working relationship they’ve forged.
