BR construction growth tops nation
Baton Rouge produced nearly one-third of the metro construction job gains in the entire nation in the past year, according to analysis by a construction trade group.
The Associated General Contractors of America released results of a September 2008-September 2009 study today, one that found only eight of the 337 largest metro areas gaining construction jobs.
Those cities combined to produce 2,100 new construction jobs, with Baton Rouge’s gain being 600. Other cities with construction employment gains included Columbus, Ind.; Anderson, Ind.; Bismarck, N.D.; and Tulsa, Okla.
Phoenix lost 35,100 construction jobs during the year, more than any other city, and fell to 102,300. Baton Rouge’s construction jobs moved from 40,600 to 41,200 during the same period.
