Mid City Redevelopment Alliance and an advisory committee of residents and business owners have come up with boundaries for a proposed cultural district.

Cultural districts, once approved by the state and the federal government, allow for tax credits for restoration of historic buildings and sales tax exemptions for original works of art sold within their boundaries. The goal is to spark community revitalization based on cultural activity.

A public meeting to discuss the proposal will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City in Conference Rooms 1 and 2.

Mid City residents and art-related businesses are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about the incentives and program guidelines.
