Air Products to partner on Luling plant
Pennsylvania-based Air Products and Chemicals Inc. will build a hydrogen plant capable of producing 100 million cubic feet per day for Monsanto’s Roundup production in Luling.
Air Products will build the facility in partnership with Technip, a Paris-based company that specializes in petrochemical engineering and construction jobs, the companies announced today in a news release.
The steam methane reformer built by the companies also will tie into and supply Air Products’ 175-mile East Gulf Coast Pipeline, which runs from Baton Rouge to Chalmette. Air Products and Technip have worked on 30 such projects. The Luling-based hydrogen plant will be operated and maintained by Air Products in a long-term lease arrangement with Monsanto.
Air Products officials could not be reached immediately for comment on how much the plant will cost and how many jobs might be created, though there usually aren’t many permanent jobs associated with such facilities. The plant is expected to open in January 2012.
