Livingston Parish Chamber hires executive

The Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce has hired Vester “Jack” Stewart as executive director.

Stewart comes to Livingston Parish from Hillsboro, Ill., where he currently serves as business administrator of the Graham Correctional Center. He was formerly director of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and also was the Community Development Planner for the West Central Illinois Valley Regional Planning Commission.

Stewart is also a grant writing consultant.. He will assume his new duties at the chamber offices in Denham Springs on Sept. 9, Sherry Mely, chairman of the board, said in a news release.

“As Livingston Parish continues to grow and emerge as the strong commercial contender of the bustling I-12 Corridor,” Mely said, “the Chamber is taking proactive steps to productively forge ahead in diligent representation of its businesses by creating this new position.

Staff member Leah Johnson continues to handle the day-to-day business at the chamber office. The chamber, which shares a building with the Arts Council, is in the midst of major renovation of its offices at 133 Hummell St.
