Shopping center, Thai eatery planned on Perkins
A fine-dining version of Thai Kitchen, the Southdowns restaurant, will open next year in a new 28,000-square-foot shopping center on Perkins Road between Essen Lane and Bluebonnet Boulevard.
Thai Kitchen owner Sam Sanguanruang will open the new fine-dining restaurant at the center of an L-shaped shopping center between Southside Produce and the Southside YMCA, said Chris Shaheen, a Saurage Commercial Real Estate broker who’s managing development of the center for Sanguanruang.
“It’s a unique look as far as shopping centers have gone in Baton Rouge,” said Shaheen, who said the tentatively named Panache Plaza could include a coffee shop, other restaurants, a pool supply company, a beauty products business and flower shop.
A 4,000-square-foot building also will be available on an out-parcel bordering the newly expanded Perkins Road, which was key to Sanguanruang’s decision to proceed with the shopping center, Shaheen said.
The Thai restaurant will be accompanied by a wine bar, with the original Thai Kitchen remaining open in Southdowns and expanding its lunch buffet service to night hours, he said.
City-parish building permits and plans should be submitted in the next two weeks, with construction bids following soon thereafter, Shaheen said.
