Shaw Group gains federal stimulus work
The Shaw Group Inc. will perform up to $100 million in solar power work funded through this year’s economic stimulus package, known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
In the deal, Shaw will operate a joint venture with AECOM Government Services Inc. through an entity called Atlantic Contingency Constructors LLC. Under a contingency contract first awarded in 2006, Atlantic won four additional task orders from the U.S. Navy for the potential $100 million in construction.
Atlantic’s work will consist of building better sustainable energy systems at Naval installations in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Mississippi and Texas. The solar energy systems could include rooftop-, carport- and ground-mounted solar panel systems.
George Bevan, president of Shaw’s Environmental & Infrastructure Group, said the goal is to design more cost-effective energy systems for the Naval sites.
