Group to hold course
The Louisiana Notary Association will hold a professional development course on July 18 in Baton Rouge for notaries wanting to further their skills in executing mandates/powers of attorney.
Attendees will learn the types of mandates, the clauses pertinent to each and the variations to suit the situation. They will understand the latest legal changes and how to apply the appropriate remedies when the mandate is no longer necessary; is temporarily or permanently unable to act; or either party is uncooperative or wants out of the arrangement.
The course will be 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. July 18 at the Holiday Inn South on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. The instructor is Judy Young.

AWC opens division
Baton Rouge-based AWC Inc. announced its new electrical division at 11511 Industriplex Blvd. in Baton Rouge.
Division President Charles Bueche will focus on the sale of electrical products to industrial and commercial contractors and end users. Major product lines include Appleton and Siemens.
AWC Inc. is an employee owned company focused on distribution of electrical, filtration, instrumentation, and process control products, with operations in nine southeastern states.
July 31 deadline nears
The July 31 application deadline is approaching for farmers and rural small businesses seeking funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to finance renewable energy or energy efficiency projects.
USDA Rural Development provides grants and loans as part of the 2008 Farm Bill. Farmers and rural small businesses can apply for government-guaranteed loans to cover 75 percent of a project’s cost, up to $25 million. Grants are available to cover 25 percent of a project’s cost, up to $500,000 for renewable energy projects and up to $250,000 for energy efficiency projects.

Job fair set for Friday
The Louisiana Workforce Commission will conduct a Port Allen job fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday with an emphasis on finding employment for workers losing their jobs at Trinity Marine Products. In May, the barge builder said it would cut 190 jobs in mid-July.
Employers may participate at no cost in the job fair, which is expected to draw workers who are mechanics, welders, electricians, pipefitters and machine and heavy equipment operators.
The job fair is at the West Baton Rouge Conference Center, 2750 N. Westport Drive. Employers may register by calling Greg Anders at (225) 342-2934. The registration deadline is noon July 9.
