Kenneth Jones has been inducted into the Louisiana Home Builder Association’s Housing Hall of Fame. Jones is owner of Jones Design/Builders of St. Francisville. 

Eric Arman has been awarded the chartered life underwriter designation from American College. He is an investment specialist with Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana-Baton Rouge. 

Hui Juan Xing of Wynn L. White Consulting Engineers Inc. has been certified as a LEED Accredited Professional. The leadership in energy and environmental design certification is a voluntary, national benchmark for the design, construction and operation of energy-efficient, green buildings developed by the United States Green Building Council. 

John Alberstadt has been certified as a leadership in energy and environmental design professional He works for MAPP Construction. 

Michelle Guidry of Exit Realty Keystone has completed the national certification as a certified new home specialist. 

Linda Messina of St. Joseph’s Academy has been named the 2009 Outstanding Biology Teacher for Louisiana by the National Association of Biology Teachers. This honor identifies a teacher who has made valuable contributions to the profession and to his/her students. Criteria for the award include teaching ability, experience, inventiveness, initiative, inherent teaching strengths and cooperativeness in the school and community.  

Dr. James A. Birke has been honored with the Roger Pecoraro Lectureship from the American Diabetes Association. Clinical researchers are selected based on outstanding contributions to the knowledge and treatment of the diabetic foot. Birke is director of rehabilitation services at the LSU Health Sciences Center and the LSU Diabetes Foot Program at Earl K. Long Medical Center. 

The Louisiana State Bar Association, in conjunction with the Louisiana Supreme Court, has recognized pro bono accomplishments. Awards presented to attorneys from the local area are: Friend of Pro Bono Award, Jean A. Hill, Lafayette; Career Public Interest Award, Michael B. Thomas, Baton Rouge; Pro Bono Publico Award, Gary K. McKenzie, Baton Rouge; Children’s Law Award, Kathy Lynn Cook, Baton Rouge; Law Student Pro Bono Award, Leslie K. Ziober, Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center; Shelly E. Alexander, Southern University Law Center. Hill is a staff attorney with the 15th Judicial District Court (Family Division). Thomas served at Capital Area Legal Services Corp. McKenzie is a member of Steffes, Vingiello and McKenzie. Cook is a supervising attorney with the Mental Health Advocacy Service. Ziober received her law degree from LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in May. Alexander received her law degree from Southern University Law Center in May. 

Three area attorneys and the Baton Rouge Bar Association are the recipients of 2009 Louisiana State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Awards. Blake R. David of Lafayette received the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. Franchesca L. Hamilton-Acker of Lafayette received the Bat P. Sullivan Jr. Chair’s Award. Olita Magee Domingue of Lafayette received the Pro Bono Award. The Baton Rouge Bar Association received the Service to the Bar Award for its handbook “The New (and not-so-new) Lawyers’ Survival Guide.” David is a founding partner in the firm of Broussard and David. Hamilton-Acker is a staff attorney for the Acadiana Legal Service Corp. Domingue is a solo practitioner 

Dona K. Renegar of Lafayette received a 2009 Louisiana State Bar Association Award. She was recognized for exemplary work on the Leadership LSBA Program. She is a partner in the Lafayette office of Huval, Veazey, Felder, Aertker and Renegar.
