BREC buys land for Central sports park
The East Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission has purchased 50 acres in Central to build the first phase of its planned $7.3 million sports park.
BREC — having gotten commission approval earlier this month — paid $693,512 for the parcel at Hooper and Lovett roads, where it plans to build the Hooper Road Sports Park.
The first phase will cost $3 million — a figure that does not include the purchase price — and feature ball fields, a hub building, a lake, walking and jogging trails, and parking facilities, said Kristi Williams, BREC’s communications director.
Williams said crews will break ground by this fall and that the park will take between 10-15 months to build, depending on the weather.
There are not yet any concrete plans for the second phase, Williams said.
