Business Honors for June 21, 2009
Kent J Achord, of Prairieville, has earned the Project Management Professional certification awarded by the Project Management Institute. To obtain the credential, an individual must satisfy education and experience requirements, agree to adhere to a professional code of conduct and pass an examination.
Larry Crumbley, KPMG endowed professor in the LSU E.J. Ourso College of Business’s Department of Accounting, has been awarded the Certified in Financial Forensics credential by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The credential is granted to CPAs with notable professional experience in financial forensics.
Five area companies have been named winners of Lantern Awards presented by Louisiana Economic Development and the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association. They are: Region 1: American Sugar Refining Inc./Domino Sugar, Arabi; Region 2: BASF Corp., Geismer; Region 3: John Deere Thibodaux, Thibodaux; Region 4: Metal Shark Aluminum Boats, Jeanerette; Region 7: Haynes International Inc., Arcadia; Lantern Award winners are selected based on their contribution to their local community, including employment growth and facility expansion.
Our Lady of The Lake Regional Medical Center and Louisiana Economic Development have won awards from the Louisiana Quality Foundation. The 2008 Louisiana Performance Excellence Award recognizes leadership and performance in education, government, manufacturing, service industries, health-care and nonprofit organizations. As a Level II applicant, LED submitted an organizational profile and information related to its leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, human resource focus and process management. As a Level III applicant, the Lake submitted for review all the information listed above plus information on its business performance results.
A group of Southern University business students recently earned first-place honors for their marketing strategy presentation during the 40th Annual Black Executive Exchange Program’s Conference in Atlanta. The four-member team of Jeffrey Maples of Detroit, Mich.; Oise Ohiosimuan of Nigeria; Tiffany Pounds of New Orleans; and Sylvia Smith worked on a project to increase the market share of the Sam’s Club Member’s Mark Facial Tissue. The team’s marketing plan included a slogan: “Giving you what you need and M.O.R.E. (Members Only Rewards and Extras).” The competition was sponsored by Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club. Southern won a spot in the final round of competition by finishing in the top three in an earlier competition against 20 other colleges and universities. Along with Southern, the other finalists are Clark Atlanta and Wilberforce University, the 2008 champion.
