Representatives of Louisiana’s labor and social services agencies are in Utah this week to study that state’s work force development and unemployment insurance systems.

The group’s trip is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, which also paid to develop the Utah system.

That state’s system, recognized as being among the best in the country, integrates unemployment insurance with work force development case management and job placement programs.

“Utah’s system is a model for much of what we want to achieve in Louisiana. It is easy to use for customers, and it is effective for state staff,” Tia Edwards, deputy director of Louisiana’s labor department, said in prepared comments.
