Louisiana ranks low in online disclosure of contracting information
Louisiana is among seven states listed as the worst offenders in full online disclosure of state contracting information, according to a survey issued today by Ralph Nader and the Center for the Study of Responsive Law.
The center surveyed state government Web sites in order to discover which states provide the most information about their contracts and processes.
The other worst offenders were Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Optimal disclosure features include full-text versions of the state contract, spending summaries, names and locations of contractors, and the corporate parent of contractors, among other information.
According to the group, states with best practices were Illinois, Indiana, Montana, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas and Vermont.
