The Old South Baton Rouge Partnership has begun the second round of its program to help businesses in the area between downtown and LSU improve the appearance of their buildings.

Businesses in Old South can apply for matching grants in the Commercial Façade Improvements Grants Program offered by the partnership and the Center For Planning Excellence.

The grants will be up to $5,000 for one-story buildings and up to $7,500 for two-story buildings. Property owners and businesses seeking the grants contribute an equal amount or greater to receive the grant.

The first round, completed earlier this year, saw five businesses receive about $24,000 toward more than $200,000 in improvements.

The grants are funded by the East Baton Rouge Mortgage Finance Authority and the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors Fund.

Grant applications can be downloaded at www.osbr.org, by calling Old South Baton Rouge Partnership at (225) 803-8095 or CPEX at (225) 267-6300.

Interested applicants can but are not required to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 at the McKinley High School Alumni Center at 1520 Thomas H. Delpit Drive to review the program details and the application process. A number of small business resources will also be available. Applications must be received or postmarked no later than Nov. 29 to be considered.
