Dr. Dennis McCurnin, professor of veterinary surgery in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, received the 2008 SWVS Visionary Award at the Southwest Veterinary Symposium. This award is presented each year to the individual who is recognized in their profession and is actively engaged in the private, public, or corporate practice of veterinary medicine and whose contributions have aided in elevating the standards and goals of veterinary medicine. Nominees are submitted from the five SWVS partner states and the SWVS Awards Committee selects the winner.
 
Fred J. Grace III has received the Medal of Honor from the Louisiana chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The medal is awarded in recognition of outstanding service in  architecture and to the community. Grace recently retired. He was founding partner of Grace & Hebert Architects, formerly: Newman & Grace Architects. 

The Greater Baton Rouge Industry Alliance has named winners of the 2008 Contractor Safety Excellence Awards. The award recognizes safety performance by contractors  in industrial facilities. These winners are Baton Rouge-area companies or national companies with offices in the Baton Rouge area. The top award, the 2008 Hal G. Ginn Safety Excellence Award, was awarded by AbClean  Inc. for the best overall performance. Other winners are as follows.
--Manufacturing and Industrial Building Construction and Maintenance General Contractors category: PALA Interstate LLC and Excel Contractors Inc.,  first place, small and medium contractors, and  Shaw Maintenance Inc. , large contractors. Performance Contractors Inc., honorable mention award, medium contractors; and Performance Contractors Inc.Cajun Constructors Inc., BE&K Construction Co., Jacobs Engineering and Turner Industries Group,  recognition awards, large contractors.
--Construction and Maintenance Specialty Trade Contractors category: Midwest Cooling Tower Services Inc., first place, small contractors;  AbClean Inc. and Webb, Murray & Associates Inc.,  tied for first place, medium contractors;  Petrin Corp., Protherm Services Group Inc., and Westgate LLC, recognition award, medium contractors; Industrial Specialty Contractors, first place,  Basic Industries Inc., Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services and United Scaffolding Inc., honorable mention; and HydroChem Industrial Services and Johnson Controls Inc., recognition award, large contractors. 
--Technical Support Contractors category: Capital Ultrasonics, first place and John L. Lowery & Associates Inc.,  recognition award, small contractors; Ford, Bacon and Davis  and Veolia Water NA. tied for first place, medium contractors; and SGS North America Inc., OGC, first place and SGS Petroleum Services Corp., recognition award, large contractors|
--Most Improved Safety Performance category: Webb, Murray & Associates Inc. first place, and Capital Ultrasonics LLC and United Scoffolding Inc., small contractors; and Basic Industries Inc., first place, and Brand Energy & Infrastructure Services recognition award, large contractors. 

Sandra Ezell has been named recipient of the Frederic Milton Thrasher Award. This award was established by the Journal of Gang Research recognizing outstanding leadership and service contributions by individuals and programs in dealing with public safety issues such as those posed by gangs.  Ezell is the certified school safety coordinator for Louisiana. 

Traci LaMoyne, and Caroline Alberstadt of LaMoyne Design Associates have been awarded the 2008 American Society of Interior Designers South Central District Chapter, Bronze Award for Omni Bank at Towne Center.  The south central district is comprised of Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. The designers worked in association with Baton Rouge architectural Chenevert Architects from Baton Rouge.

Dianne Griffin has been named Distinguished Member of the Year by the Louisiana Cancer Registrar’s Association. The  award is presented annually to a member who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the association. Griffin is a quality control specialist for the Louisiana Tumor Registry and tumor conference coordinator for Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. 

The Better Business Bureau announces the winners of the 2008 Douglas Manship, Sr. Torch Awards for Ethics in Business. They are:
--1-9 employees: Creative Communications Inc.
--11-99 employees: SSA Consultants Inc.
--100-299 employees: MAPP Construction Starmount Life Insurance Company
--300-plus employees: McDonald’s of Baton Rouge St. Elizabeth Hospital.
The award honors businesses that exhibit the highest ethical standards of behavior toward customers, suppliers, users, shareholders, employees and the community. An independent panel of judges selected the 2008 winners.   

Linda Hyatt Babin, Cherie Bardwell, Jason MacMorran and Layne McDaniel were among nine members selected by the Society of Louisiana CPAs to become CPA Ambassadors. As CPA Ambassadors they are available to speak to local civic and community groups. Babin is a CPA with Wright & Percy Insurance. Bardwell is a CPA with the Baton Rouge firm Maddox & Associates. MacMorran is associate director, valuation and litigation services, for Postlethwaite & Netterville. McDaniel is president and CEO of Noesis Data, Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge Inc., and Credit Bureau of the Baton Rouge Foundation.
