The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies has launched an auto insurance program in Louisiana that tracks and rewards policyholders for safe driving habits, such as not slamming on the brakes or changing lanes too quickly.

Drivers who sign up for the MyRate program receive a small wireless device that plugs into a port in their car. The device measures the way the car is driven, how much it’s driven and when.

New Louisiana customers can earn a one-time, first-term discount of up to 10 percent for signing up. When they renew their policy, their rate could go down by 25 percent or more or up by 9 percent based on their driving habits. Drivers will be able to see whether they’re on track for a discount or an increase by reviewing their driving data at any time in a secure part of progressive.com.
