Entergy delays plant’s conversion
Entergy Corp. has pushed back its $1.5 billion project to convert a LaPlace power plant to coal from natural gas until 2009, according to Industrial Info Resources, an industry news service.
Entergy said in April the project would be delayed several months because an unrelated federal court ruling would require Entergy to submit another layer of environmental analysis.
The utility wants to repower an aging oil and gas-fired unit at the Little Gypsy site by installing two state-of-the-art boilers that use cheaper petroleum coke and coal.
Urban planner gets DDD assistant post
Jeff Fluhr, assistant executive director of the Downtown Development District, is stepping down to become president of the Wichita Downtown Development Corp. in Wichita, Kan., next month.
His replacement is Mark Goodson, an urban planner for the Center for Planning Excellence and a former DDD intern. Goodson has been overseeing the implementation of the plan to revitalize Old South Baton Rouge.
Records: Plumbing firm buys tract
Sales records show Central Plumbing Co., on Greenwell Springs Road east of the Airline Highway interchange, paid $725,000 this week for a 4.6-acre tract on the west side of Airline owned by Bailey Lumber & Supply Co.
Bailey Lumber is a Gulfport, Miss., company that has other Baton Rouge operations farther south on Airline. A message left Thursday with Central Plumbing was not returned.
