Coca Cola expands holdings
Sales records show Coca-Cola’s Baton Rouge bottling plant paid $603,960 on Friday for a 3.6-acre parking lot it had been leasing for 10 years at its operations near Airline Highway and Interstate 12.
The deal followed Coca Cola Bottling Co. United Gulf Coast’s lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in which it sought to force the deal with the seller, Titanium LLC, which, according to Secretary of State records, is held by René Ortlieb III.
In the suit, Coca-Cola said it notified Titanium earlier this year it planned to exercise a purchase option in the lease.
But Coca-Cola said in the suit that Ortlieb did not show for the closing in June.
Coca-Cola plans to move next year from its headquarters on Dawnadele Avenue into a new $178 million bottling facility under construction on Plank Road near Metro Airport.
Friday’s purchase gives Coca-Cola a total of about 30 acres at Dawnadele.
“We aren’t actively looking to acquire property. It just made sense to exercise the purchase option … to bundle with our existing acreage,” Coca-Cola spokeswoman Melanie Clark said Tuesday.
Clark has said that the Dawnadele property will be sold early next year to a prospective buyer that she has declined to identify.
