Verenium reports second-quarter loss
Biofuels groundbreaker Verenium Corp. today reported a net loss of $16.4 million, or 26 cents per share, for the second quarter. A year earlier, the firm reported a net loss of $55.2 million, or $1.13 per share
The company reported a net loss of $39.7 million, or 64 cents, for the first half of 2008. That compares to $65.5 million, or $1.36 per share, a year earlier.
On Wednesday, the company announced a partnership with BP and $90 million investment that will help accelerate the commercial production of cellulosic ethanol, or ethanol made from things like sugar cane waste, switchgrass and other non-food products.
Verenium’s stock traded this morning at $3.42 per share, up 10 cents.
