Chevron Corp.'s new Gulf exploration headquarters in St. Tammany Parish has won Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification and is the first gold certified LEED building in the state.

The design acronym is a program of the United States Green Building Council of Louisiana. LEED has a rating system for new buildings that are constructed to have less of an impact on the environment and are healthier for those who work in them.

The building, called Northpark, is headquarters for Chevron North America Exploration and Production Co.'s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. The unit manages Chevron's exploration and production off the coasts of Louisiana, Texas and Alabama.

The building is located in unincorporated St. Tammy Parish outside of Covington city limits.
