Belle of BR’s parent firm files bankruptcy
The parent company of Tropicana casinos, the properties of which includes the Belle of Baton Rouge and the downtown Sheraton hotel, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, several months after gambling regulators in New Jersey stripped the famed Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City of its license.
The Belle of Baton Rouge is among nine properties named in the filing. It was not immediately clear, however, what affect, if any, the filing would have on the downtown boat’s operations.
However, Tropicana Entertainment LLC said it plans to continue operating its remaining properties throughout the country and will keep current staffing levels, The Associated Press reported. The privately held company and its affiliates have 11,000 full- and part-time employees in five states.
Senior staff members with the Louisiana Gaming Control Board are out of state and were unavailable for comment this morning.
