Child dies in van at day care center
The 3-year-old girl who was found dead inside a day care center van today has been identified as Damilyn McElveen, of 3002 E. Mason, said Sgt. Don Kelly, a Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman.
The blue-and-white van was parked at Wanda’s Kids World at 2839 Brady St., where a sign indicates the center is a licensed developmental and pre-school learning center.
Police were notified just before 3 p.m. today that a day care worker had found Damilyn in the van, Kelly said. Day care employees brought her inside the building and tried to administer CPR, but the child could not be revived, he said.
It appears the child was picked up by a day care center employee this morning and, when the van was unloaded, was overlooked and left inside, Kelly said.
The parents have been notified, he said.
