Area athletes place in GUMBO Meet

Several athletes from Ascension Parish competed in the Louisiana Invitational GUMBO Meet Sept. 19 in Alexandria.

The Games Uniting Mind and Body, known as the GUMBO project, is an interscholastic track and field competition designed for school-age student who have physical or visual disabilities, Ascension team coach Arlene Molliere said.

Galvez Middle School student Acy Jackson IV won first place in the 20-meter and 60-meter runs, shot put and discus. Jake Cefalu, Oak Grove Primary, won first place in the 60-meter and 100-meter runs; second place in shot put and fifth in discus.

Prairieville Primary School student Emma Hicks won fourth place in the 1200-meter run, shot put and discus and K’Von Albert, also at Prairieville Primary, won second place in the discus and softball throw.

Isaiah Simon, Oak Grove Primary, captured second place in the 100 meter run and softball throw and third in shot put and discus.
