Gunners advances to semifinals

The Gonzales Soccer Club’s 10-year-old and younger Gunners team made it to the semifinal round of the Mandeville Midnight Madness Halloween Tournament Oct. 24-25.

Gunners ended its first game of the tournament against the Lakeview Thunder in a 1-1 tie, said coach Matt Pryor.

The team went on to defeat the Baton Rouge Red Team 5-1 in the second game and the Mandeville White team 2-0 in the first game on the second day of the tournament. With a 2-0-1 record at the end of the preliminary round, Gunners was on top of the 10-team bracket and headed to the semifinal round, where it faced the Thunder and lost 5-4.

Following the semifinal loss, head coach Chip McCorkle told his team that he was proud of their effort throughout the weekend tournament.
