Volunteer teens honored by School Board
The Ascension Parish School Board honored during its Oct. 20 meeting some of the students who participated in Volunteer Ascension’s ConnecTeens summer program.
Twenty-nine ConnecTeen members volunteered in 156 activities with more than 730 hours servicing local residents and assisting agencies with volunteer needs, Volunteer Ascension Executive Director Audrey Boudreaux said.
The School Board passed a resolution honoring 23 of the teens who attend public schools.
Superintendent Donald Songy praised the teens for taking time away from their summer vacations to make a difference in their community.
“These teenagers experience the highest reward a person can achieve by volunteering, and satisfaction knowing they have helped another person,” Boudreaux said. “The agencies involved, sincerely appreciate the extra help from the teen volunteers in providing their services.”
In its eighth year, ConnecTeens is a program of Volunteer Ascension that matches young volunteers with areas of need throughout the parish.
Taking part in the summer program were Landon Troxclair, Jordyn Nethken, Jakeb Lowery, Molly Norton, Shelby Jones, Joshua Jones, Rachel Jarrell, Camryn Nethken, Caitlin Ballotta, Tamera Marks, Jeramiah Brebeck, Jasmine Carter, Santiago Cruz, Chase Ducote, Traniecia Garrison, Steven Hendricks, Eric Hill, Britt Huston, Camren Melancon, Eric and Kevin Murrell, Victor Robert, Jon Frederic, Keri Frederic, Sydney Main, Hailey Manint, Michelle Poole and Ben Ross.
