GONZALES — The Donaldsonville Tigers B team’s coaching staff didn’t have much time to worry about Saturday’s one-point loss to the Eastside Raiders

After talking about the loss and how things could have gone better, coaches turned their attention to the Southeast Football League’s championship playoff series.

“It was a hard one to swallow, but we know they’re headed for the playoffs,” Donaldsonville Tigers Director Percy Cargo said Monday.

The B Team, made up of 9- and 10-year-olds and the C Team, players ages 7 and 8, both qualified for league playoffs, Cargo said.
The teams will find out their next opponents Sunday when the playoff draft is held.

“It makes you proud to have teams (in the playoffs) representing your organization,” he said during Saturday’s game in Gonzales.
Cargo said the C team ended the season 6-1, while the B-Team recorded a 3-4 record. The A team, made up of 11- and 12-year-olds, ended its season 2-5.

“Everyone played hard and for that, we’re proud,” Cargo said.

In Saturday’s game, the Tigers came out strong with a quick score on a reverse play that saw Aaron Julien run more than 50 yards for a touchdown.

Eastside came back to take the lead, 7-6.

In the Tigers’ next possession, Jacoby Smith avoided several tackles on his way into the end zone for another touchdown.
Minutes later, Dequincy Robinson recovered a Raiders fumble and raced into the end zone.he Raiders scored again at the end of the first half and the Tigers led, 20-13.

After a hard-fought second half, the Tigers lost by one point.

The C Team posted the only win of the day for the Tigers.

The Donaldsonville Tigers have been around for more than 40 years. Cargo said the teams stress hard work, teamwork and discipline. He credited the group’s longevity to parental and community support.
