Group selects artist of the month for July
The River Region Art Association selected Frances Prestridge as its July Artist of the Month.
Prestridge’s sculptures are on display throughout the month at the River Region Art Gallery at Houmas House Plantation Gift Shop on the River Road in Darrow.
Prestridge is a nurse at Imperial Sugar’s Colonial Sugar Refinery in Gramercy. She enjoys sculpting, reading and collecting antique dolls. She studied oil painting with Teddy Ruiz for several years when she began her interest in the arts in the 1980s.
She began taking sculpting lessons in 2004 from Gene Spann in Baton Rouge. After three years, Prestridge realized that clay was her favorite medium and specializes in sculpting heads of humans and animals.
She is a member of the River Region Art Association.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
