Ascension residents take state VFW honors
Two Ascension Parish residents took home crowns from the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars State Convention on June 26-28 in Alexandria.
Alyssa Grenfell, daughter of Chad and Jody Grenfell, won the Little Miss Buddy Poppy crown during the June 26 pageant. Grenfell represented VFW Post 3693 and its Ladies Auxiliary.
East Ascension High School graduate Jada Boudreaux, the daughter of Don and Bridget Boudreaux, was crowned Miss Louisiana VFW.
“We were so excited because this was the first time we walked away with two of our contestants taking state titles,” Ladies Auxiliary member Adeline Guedry said.
Members of the auxiliary won several awards during the convention.
Guedry, chairwoman of the group’s cancer aid and research program, won first place for her program; and Alice Parent, chairwoman of the group’s membership drive, won a plaque for reaching 100 percent of membership by the Dec. 31 deadline.
Joyce LeSaicherre was honored for her work as district president and as chairwoman of the Voice of Democracy program.
