Future Track Club to compete in Tenn.
Forty members of The Future Track Club are competing in the USA Track and Field Southern Association regional meet in Tennessee beginning Friday.
Assistant coach Dan Perkins said the athletes have worked hard at several meets throughout the season to qualify for the regional competition.
Among the club members making the trip are Dean “D.J.” LeBeouf, who attends Dutchtown Primary School and competes in the 100-meter and 200-meter races; Erica Hardnett, a student at Oak Grove Primary who qualified in the 1500-meter race walk; and Breanna Sparrow, a Central Elementary student, competing in the 1500-meter race walk.
Jordan Delmore, a student at Dutchtown Middle School, is competing in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1500-meter races.
Dutchtown Middle School student Cory McBride, who has broken several meet records this season, is competing in the long jump, 100-meter race and 200-meter race. Dutchtown Middle School student Corey Thomas, shot put and discus; and Precious Siemen, 400-meter and 4x400-meter relay races, are also competing.
Prairieville Middle School students Casey Richardson, 100-meter and 4x100 relay races; and Darrell Hardnett, 800-meter and 1500-meter races, are competing, as well as Corion Davis, shot put, from Ascension Christian School.
Other club qualifiers include Evan Matheny, Galvez Middle, 3000-meter run; Deandre Jacobs, East Ascension High, 100-meter and 200-meter races; Darius Willis, East Ascension, 4x100 relay; and Leah Sparrow and Nakia Smith, both from East Ascension, 4x100-meter relay.
Dutchtown High School students April Tasker, 400-meter hurdles and triple jump; Chris Thompson, 800-meter and 1500 meter runs and Aspen Richardson, 4x400 relay, also qualified for the regional event.
The Future Track Club is coached by Trent Ellis, head coach and assistants Perkins and Tracy Landry.
