Gonzales man killed in car crash
A 70-year-old Gonzales man died in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday evening in Ascension Parish, State Police said.
Henry Jackson was driving a 2005 Dodge Magnum along US 61 near La. 73 at 5:50 p.m., Trooper Russell G. Graham II said.
Jackson drove his vehicle from the shoulder of U.S. 61 and into the path of a southbound 2003 Peterbilt truck.
The driver of the Peterbilt, Lawrence Capers, 57, of Gonzales, broadsided Jackson’s vehicle, Graham said.
Capers tried to avoid hitting Jackson, but could not, Graham said.
Jackson, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not wearing a seat belt, Graham said.
Capers was properly restrained and uninjured.
Graham said alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
Capers submitted to a chemical test and no alcohol was detected.
Samples of Jackson’s blood have been submitted to for testing.
