Rubicon Chemical representatives Drew Fillingame and Shannon Arceneaux were presented with a key to the parish during the Ascension Parish Council’s Feb. 19 meeting.

The council and Parish President Tommy Martinez thanked the company for its chemical waste reductions efforts. Rubicon was recently honored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for successfully reaching a goal of better process controls and reduced wastes.

Rubicon has been a participating member of the EPA’s National Partnership for Environmental Priorities since 2005 and committed to the reduction of waste benzene and aniline used in its polyurethane operations.

The NPEP project involved system upgrades that resulted in the reduction of benzene and aniline incinerated at its facility by 1.2 million pounds.

The Rubicon facility has been active in Louisiana’s Environmental Leadership Program since 1998.

Martinez commended Rubicon’s “contributions to the Ascension Parish community and commitment to being a good neighbor.”
