DONALDSONVILLE — The lunch crowd wanders on a recent Thursday into The Capitol Grill, one of the newest additions on Railroad Avenue in historic downtown Donaldsonville.
Angelique Green greets customers as they walk into the family-owned and run business.
The restaurant is owned by Donaldsonville native Jarvis Green, a former LSU Tiger football player, now a defensive end with the New England Patriots.
Angelique Green is married to Aaron Green, Jarvis Green’s brother.
The couple moved back to Donaldsonville from Monroe, where they had a restaurant that specialized in hamburgers and chicken wings.
“We came back the day after (Hurricane) Gustav,” she said.
Angelique Green said the restaurant was a dream of Green matriarch Marion Ceasar.
“She wanted a family business where everybody could work,” she said.
That dream is on the way to being realized with Aaron Green as assistant manager; sister Shannah Green Spencer working as kitchen manager and Phillip August — whose sister is married to Jarvis Green — as general manager.
“We’re not there yet,” Aaron Green said. “It’s only four months; we’re still in the infancy.”
The restaurant’s identity is a sports bar, something that is a new concept for Donaldsonville.
August said there are lots of food specials and music events the restaurant is hosting to draw crowds including Sinatra night, zydeco night, live bands, Monday night football and steak night.
August said that even though opening a restaurant is a risky, difficult venture, so far their opening has been fairly smooth.
