Area youth among track meet winners

Local students competed in the Games Uniting Mind and Body, know as the Gumbo track meet, in Alexandria in October. 

The event is an interscholastic track and field competition designed for students with physical or visual disabilities.

Jake Cefalu from Oak Grove Primary School won second place in the 60-meter run; third place in the shot put and discus and fourth in the softball throw.

Central Elementary School student Andrew Gonzales won first place in the softball throw, shot put and discus and second in the 60-meter run and the 100-meter run.

K’von Albert-Hillard, of Prairieville Primary School won second place in the shot put, discus and softball throw.

Michaela Hicks, Prairieville Primary finished the meet in second place in the 60-meter run and third place in the softball throw, shot put, discus and 100-meter run. 

Emma Hicks, Prairieville Primary, won second place in the shot put, third in the softball throw and fourth in discus.
