Some Pierre Part streets under water

PIERRE PART — Community services remain unavailable for more than 50 residences as high water covers streets.

Although an exact number of homes and camps affected by the flooding is unknown, about five or six streets are closed to traffic, Assistant Parish Manager Bobby Naquin said.

“Our biggest problem is sightseers,” he said. “The people who live in the area aren’t too shaken. Those who grew up here are used to it.”

The water level varies between 6 inches to a foot throughout the area, but is enough to prevent trash pickup, mail delivery and school bus pickups, Naquin said.

He said he has heard of one report where water entered a house, near Belle River, but did not know the extent.

It’s been about 10 years since a similar high-water event has occurred, he said.

The flooding was worse last week as winds from the south blew water in from Lake Verret, Naquin said.

The water is very high and stands still in many of our backyards. The mosquitoes are worse than ever now. I wish the abatement program would spray more than 2 times a month.

Please list the streets that are flooded. I have property on Coon Road and I am concerned if I can get to my property or not. Thank you.
