Man accused of raping 14-year-old; suspect hospitalized with chest pains
GRAMERCY — A 57-year-old man is accused of kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old girl Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was riding a bicycle to a friend’s house when the suspect, Samuel Gordon, of Gramercy, forced her off the bike and dragged her to his rental house on South Oak Street, said Capt. Sid Berthelot, chief of detectives for the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Inside the house, Gordon allegedly raped the girl, who eventually escaped and ran to her grandmother’s house, Berthelot said Thursday.
The victim’s grandmother called police about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The teenager was taken to East St. James Hospital in Lutcher for medical treatment.
When deputies attempted to arrest Gordon on Wednesday night, he complained of chest pains and also was taken to the hospital, Berthelot said.
Upon Gordon’s release, he faces arrest on accusations of aggravated rape, second-degree kidnapping, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and molestation of a juvenile, Berthelot said.
