GONZALES — The Ascension Economic Development Corp. chairman said Thursday that Ascension plans to offer a satellite-based system for business and industry to use in searching for suitable building sites.

Tommy Kurtz told the Ascension Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center the Geographic Information System would be valuable to companies considering locating in the parish.

He said the system would be online in the fall.

Purpose of the site is to provide a “suitability analysis” containing information about sites available for development.

The online information would include price per acre, size, shape, acreage available, distance from Interstate 10 and rail lines, schools, historic sites and wetlands.

The package is aimed at helping potential developers determine which site is best for their project, Kurtz said.

Additionally, Kurtz said, the development corporation is working on software that would tell companies how much it would cost to locate in Ascension Parish.
