Summer art camp features jazz music
Jazz is the theme for the summer art camp at Prairieville Middle School.
Veteran art teachers Cindy Dodson and Dana Mosby will provide students an opportunity to experiment with different media while listening to the sounds of jazz.
The camp will be held July 7–11 at the school with morning session for students ages 7 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the noon to 2:30 p.m. session held for students ages 11 to 14.
The cost for each session is $80 which includes all supplies and a light snack each day.

Gonzales Baptist Temple offers aid
Gonzales Baptist Temple is taking orders for Angel Food Ministries’ May menu.
The voluntary nonprofit food program is not based on need or income requirements. Anyone can be involved.
The $30 box of food includes bacon-wrapped beef filets, chicken breast filets, pork steaks, beef and bean burritos, pizza, green beans, carrots, pears, cereal, bean soup mix and eggs.
The food box value menu offer is $60 to $70.
The deadline to order is May 19. Payment is required when placing the order.
Distribution day is May 31 at Gonzales Baptist Temple.

Students show art at school theater
Forty visually talented art students from Ascension Parish schools are displaying their work Wednesday at the Gonzales Middle School Canine Theater.
The artwork in the show, open to the public from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., represents a year of hard work by students in Ascension Parish’s Talented Visual Art program.
The show features a variety of styles, subject matter and media created by students from the first to ninth grades. Teachers Laurie Dunn and Dana Mosby will be on hand to meet parents and answer questions about the program.
Gonzales club holds plant sale
A variety of plants will be on sale Saturday during the Gonzales Garden Club’s annual plant sale.
The event is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Gonzales City Hall, Irma Boulevard at Cornerview Road.
Proceeds from the sale are used by the members to support beautification and education programs in the community.
Registration slated for cooking contest
Get your paddles ready.
Anyone interested in a shot at becoming the next jambalaya world champion cook must register Monday at the Gonzales Civic Center.
The cooking contest will be the highlight of the 41st Jambalaya Festival set for May 23-25 near City Hall in Gonzales.
Registration for the popular cook-off begins at 6 p.m.
Entry fee for the contest is $250.
