Volunteer Ascension is looking for youth interested in giving back to the community.

Audrey Boudreaux, executive director for Volunteer Ascension, said the agency is hosting an open house registration for its ConnecTeens program at 6 p.m. May 20 at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales.

ConnecTeens is a program for youth ages 12-17 that matches volunteers with local agencies looking for assistance.

Boudreaux said youth taking part in the program meet new people, learn new things and gain “a better understanding of why volunteerism makes a community successful.”

The program was developed to provide opportunities to volunteer earlier in life and to foster an ethic of community service that will last a lifetime, she said.

In its seventh year, ConnecTeens has volunteer jobs at the Special Tuesdays program, Ascension Parish Library, Fellowship Center, Salvation Army, Volunteer Ascension’s School Tools and School Uniforms and other local agencies.
