ASCENSION

Dutchtown High band to honor its seniors

Twenty Dutchtown High School band seniors will be honored Friday during the group’s senior concert and awards ceremony.

Four band members plan to continue their music careers in college.

Joe Clark was accepted into the LSU Music School of Composition with plans of becoming a composer. He has played the alto saxophone for six years, and has attended numerous honor bands.

Tuba and bass guitar player Phil Guitreau also plans to attend LSU. He has played in band for seven years and is the bass guitarist for the Dutchtown High Jazz Ensemble.

Saxophone player Sarah Laiche, the 2008 Dutchtown High Student of the Year, will be attending LSU and majoring in music performance on saxophone. 

Laiche was the drum major her senior year.

Percussionist Devin Milan plans to major in music and business management at LSU. He is interested in a career in music recording and production.

Other seniors planning to attend college are Jordon Fryoux, Meagan Jones, Rebekah Sheets, Stephanie Tucker, Karlee “K.P.” Westbrook, Taylor Aucoin, Austin Howick, John Goudeau, Kayla Decoteau, Calvin Wilson, Brittny Barnes, Zach Weaver, Colby Burns, Kinetta Crisp, Marybeth Rhodes and Morgan Cook.

Band directors Sheily Bell and David Holland will honor outstanding underclassmen and sections during the program. 

The directors will also announce the winners of the Director’s Award, Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, and the John Philip Sousa Award.
