Man, 70, in hospital after car hits him
LAFAYETTE — A 70-year-old Lafayette man is in critical condition at a local hospital following a Friday morning crash at the intersection of Mudd Avenue and Northeast Evangeline Thruway.
Police said in a news release that the man, whose identity was not released, stepped into the travel lanes and was struck by a silver Pontiac.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The crash remains under investigation, the release stated.
18-year-old arrested in shooting case
LAFAYETTE — Police arrested an 18-year-old man from Lafayette in connection with a Thursday morning shooting on St. Charles Street.
Drew Johnson was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of attempted second-degree murder, according to a news release from the Lafayette Police Department.
The shooting occurred about 8:50 a.m. in the 300 block of St. Charles Street.
Police reported that Johnson initially was involved in an argument with his uncle, a 29-year-old Lafayette man.
At some point, they walked to the front yard and Johnson retrieved a handgun from a vehicle parked on the street, the release stated.
The victim fled to the home and heard three shots ring out, the release stated.
Johnston then fled the scene, the release stated.
No one was injured in the incident.
