Center sets forum on steel guitars

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Center for Cultural and Ecotourism will host a forum on Nov. 10 about the tradition of steel guitar playing in south Louisiana.

The speakers are John Troutman, Richard Comeaux, Benjamin Joe Rogers and Murnel Babineaux.

The free forum begins at 6:30 p.m. at Vermilionville in Lafayette.

Disposal drop-off scheduled today

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Environmental Quality division will collect household chemicals and electronics for disposal from 8 a.m. to noon today at the Cajun Field parking lot.

Chemicals to be collected include paint, pesticides, gasoline, mercury and cleaning solutions.

Electronics to be collected include computers, cell phones, televisions and copiers.

The drop-off is only for residents of Lafayette Parish.

Economic group to meet Nov. 12

The Upper Lafayette Economic Development Foundation will hold its next monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Petroleum Club in Lafayette’s Oil Center.

The scheduled speaker is Louisiana Chief Supreme Court Justice Catherine “Kitty” Kimball.
