Iberia hires consultants to revise manual
NEW IBERIA — The Iberia Parish School Board voted unanimously Wednesday night to hire Forethought Consulting Inc. for a comprehensive revision and update of the policy manual for a one-time cost of $20,500.
The company will examine three to five years of minutes of School Board meetings for exact rulings, take newly passed laws into consideration, and offer tips on how to make the policy easier to understand and to enforce.
The process will convert the policy manual, currently about 4 inches thick, to an alphabetic coding system, and create a Web site accessible version that has a hyper-link system for easier navigation.
Any changes recommended by Forethought will come before the board with an explanation of why the changes were proposed.
“As a Board, we live and die by the policy manual because that’s the way we make decisions,” Superintendent Dale Henderson said. “I’m optimistic that they’re going to produce a good product. I think it’s well worth the money.”
Assistant Superintendent of Administration Michael Judice said that St. Martin and Vermilion parishes have used Forethought and have been pleased with the results.
He added that anything new may be difficult to decipher at first, but compared the process of learning a new policy manual form with his own experience of learning to use a Blackberry phone.
“It’ll take some getting used to,” Judice said.
The board has the option to decide later if they wish to subscribe to Forethought’s $3,000 annual fee for a continual maintenance policy updating service.
